TRADIES DONATES $250,000
What better way to start off 2010 with Tradies pledging $250,000 of monetary support to two of our community’s hardest working community support organisations, the Salvation Army (Miranda) and Lifeline (Sydney & Sutherland). Both organisations will receive $125 000 which will go a long way to helping these groups continue to make the Sutherland Shire a better place to live for young and old, the fortunate and those who are not.
For a number of years now Tradies has been a significant supporter and contributor to both the Salvation Army and Lifeline. For the Salvation Army, the support provided by Tradies has allowed them to run programs for our community, such as Survivor Life Skills. This program targets financial literacy and provides fantastic resources to assist young adults to navigate the difficulties that confront them in regards to mobile phone contracts, leasing, budgeting and so on. The Red Shield Appeal, which many of you would be aware of, is a major fund raising drive for the Salvation Army each year. At no cost, Tradies hosts the launch for this event each year, which provides over $30 000 in donations to kick start the campaign in the Sutherland Shire. The Salvation Army plans to use this additional injection of funds on projects such as -
- Free and low cost on site counselling services.
- Additional Youth and Community Workers.
- Provide FREE community transport.
- Purchase music and creative production equipment / facilities for use in their existing music program.
- Employ a Senior Citizens Welfare Worker.
Since 2002, Tradies has contributed over $150 000 in direct cash contributions to Lifeline. Such contributions have allowed Lifeline to establish a Lifeline 24 Call Centre at Sylvania. The $70 000 donated was vital to the establishment of this service as well as its ongoing operations. A major component of Tradies support to Lifeline is provided through the annual Lifeline Book Fair - were all books that are donated are then available for purchase with all proceeds going to help Lifeline continue their support services. With the $125 000 Lifeline has received they plan to spend these funds on -
- Telephone counsellor’s training and supervision.
- Management and administration of the service.
- A recruitment campaign in the local area.
Tradies is proud to be able to assist these wonderful organisations in their endeavours to enact such wonderful projects and we hope we will be able to continue to develop our strong relationships with both the Salvation Army and Lifeline to enable them continue to serve our community into the future.
